How Do Cavities Form?

tooth-chartDental decay, generally known as tooth cavities, can lead to structural weakness, tooth infection, and other oral health issues. When bacteria in your mouth break down food, acids are produced as a by-product. Unless removed through brushing and flossing, these acids erode tooth enamel, resulting in cavities.

How can you prevent cavities?

The best way to prevent cavities is with a thorough at-home routine and biannual dental cleanings at our comfortable TNT Dental Care office. At-home routines should consist of brushing with a soft bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste after every meal and snack, or at the very least morning and night. Flossing should be done daily as well to remove plaque and food particles from in between teeth.

Every six months you should visit our office for preventive services such as regular professional cleanings, exams, and if necessary, x-rays. These visits will reduce your risk for future cavities and also allows our team to treat any cavities that may have occurred in between visits.
