After Crown (SSC) Placement Care
A few precautions should be taken:
- Avoid sticky or chewy foods which can stick to the crown and pull it right off
- Chew on the opposite side of your mouth
- Avoid chewing on hard foods which can dislodge or break the crown
- When flossing your teeth, slide the floss through rather than lifting up. Pulling the floss up could pull off the temporary crown.
The area that was worked on may be sensitive and sometimes it can help to eat a softer diet for the first few days after a crown.
Once the permanent crown is cemented in, it is best to avoid sticky foods for the first 24 hours, after that you may eat, drink, and brush your teeth just like before.
In the case of any unusual circumstances, or if your crown comes off, please call the office so that we may schedule you for an emergency or follow-up visit. Click below for a printable version of this information.
