Frenectomy

A frenectomy is a simple surgical procedure that involves removing the frenum, a fold of muscular tissue in the mouth. There are two frena in the mouth that could impair normal function: the lingual frenum, which connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth, and the maxillary labial frenum, which connects the upper lip to the gums above your upper two front teeth. When the frenum is too tight or too prominent, it can cause problems, such as create a gap between the front two teeth. A frenectomy can resolve these problems with a simple excision.
